Take a break

The foundation of all Hoffice work: a refreshing, grounding and fun break!

While every Hoffice group develops their own favourite breaks, we also love to get inspired by each other. Therefore we co-created this list of great break activities in our Hoffice network.

Guided Meditations from Insight Timer App

Sometimes you might want to offer a moment of mindfulness, without being responsible to guide it for the others. The app Insight Timer (available for both Android and iOS) might help you here; it contains a range of beautiful guided meditations. A good one to start a Hoffice day is e.g. “Being Infinite”.

Qi Gong

A 7 minute session of calming and centring movements. Click here and enjoy!

Drumming on the head

This drumming on the head is is suppose to activate and stimulate the meridian system and blood circulation. Click here.

Hoffice Massage

A beautiful partner massage exercise. One sits in a chair, the other one stands behind. The standing person begins to lean with the elbows on the neck of his partner, applying increasingly pressure. Then s/he moves a bit further out towards the shoulders and repeats 2x (don’t lean on the bones). Now s/he lays the hands around the partner’s head and strokes from there carefully done the whole upper body 3-5x. Then s/he begins to massage the back around the spine with the thumbs, moving slowly upwards til the neck. Here s/he applies a intuitive neck massage. S/he finishes with some strokes from the head, downwards the upper body. The receiver might want to thank the masseur, before you switch places and roles. You will sit straight and comfortable for the next 45 minutes!

Barfoot walking with food massage

Take of those socks, run outside, try to find funny/nice/interesting things to feel with your feets and show them to the others. Go in (maybe ask for a towel to clean the feet :), sit together on the floor, lay one foot in your lap and massage it with the pressure of your elbow, massage also the toes, change sides, put on your socks, and be ready to sit grounded for the next 45 minutes!

Walking backwards

Activates both your brain spheres and the interconnection. Can be done barefooted :-)

Good stretching exercise

Click here for a very effective way of stretching those limbs.

Forward Head Posture Correction

Many of us get used to a posture with the head moving too far forward. Click here for a YouTube video helps to correct this

The crossed-legged pantomime inside of a glas ball

Stand tall and cross your legs. Now imagine you are inside of a glas ball. Use your flat hands to try to touch the whole inner surface of the glas ball – both in front of you and behind you – like a pantomime :) When you touched the whole surface, cross the legs the other way around and do the exercise once more. By doing this exercise, your two brain hemispheres get connected and are more balanced.

The stretch-like-a-flower

Stand firmly on the ground, connect to the floor. Close your eyes and start imagining that you are a flower, growing, blooming, and reaching for the sun! Try to feel the qualities of the flower, the movement in the wind and towards the sun, and your strong roots. Let your arms be your leaves and your head the flower. Stay moving and streaching for 2-3 minutes and enjoy :-)

Goofy and scientific 7 minute workout

Combine smirks with a full body workout with this YouTube-clip. Click here.

Break dancing :)

Click here for a Spotify list from Hoffice Stockholm with some good danceable tracks.

Traditional children games from our home countries

Invite each other to think back to kindergarden times: what did you play back there? The one who comes first up with an idea, introduces and facilitates the play (and don’t worry, there will be many ideas :). If you do a few of those rounds in consecutive breaks, it will be a wonderful travel through cultures and traditions and back to your inner child.

Ninja

A great game to play in the breaks – awaken your inner Ninja! The core idea is that you have to hit another player’s hand to knock him out. Click here for the long version of explanation in this (slightly sexist) video.

Three truths and a lie

Everyone writes their name, along with four pieces of information about themselves on a large sheet of paper. For example, ‘Alfonse likes singing, loves football, has five wives and loves PRA’. Participants then circulate with their sheets of paper. They meet in pairs, show their paper to each other, and try to guess which of the ‘facts’ is a lie.

Connecting eyes

Participants stand in a circle. Each person makes eye contact with another person across the circle. The two walk across the circle and exchange positions, while maintaining eye contact. Many pairs can exchange at the same time, and the group should try to make sure that everyone in the circle is included in the exchange. Begin by trying this in silence and then exchange greetings in the middle of the circle.
